Hash-Based Message Authentication (HMAC)

Description

Frame authentication built on a keyed hash: a shared secret combined with a SHA digest of the frame yields a tag the receiver recomputes to confirm origin and integrity. SHA-256 is the normal choice, stronger SHA-2 variants are permitted by prior agreement between the endpoints, and the broken SHA-1 is forbidden.
